As Makoto Kino trudged home from school she paid little attention to the world around her. On most days she would be be happy that her classes were over and eagerly heading to the arcade or to one of her friends' houses to spend the evening. However, today was not like most days. Today all she wanted to do was go home and wait for it to end. Ignoring the chatter of her fellow students, the noise of the traffic and especially the sights and sounds of the stores she passed, Makoto slowly made her way back to her apartment.
